Imagination plus intellect
"Brilliant not in the British sense of "great idea" but in the American sense of "the way Bobby Fischer plays chess"—imagination plus intellect. JBSimon is the real McCoy, the real thing, the genuine article. Verses Nature blew me away!"
Comments from Simone Leigh
Joan Barbara Simon and I encountered each other on-line through an author’s forum and we hit it off immediately. And of course, as authors who are interested in each other, the first thing we did was read some of each other’s writing. And so I read Joan latest book, 'Versus Nature'.
Now, I am the first to admit that I write what my readers ask me for. I write my ‘Coffee Break’ stories and they are very much intended to be, for the most part, light-hearted, easy reading. I aim for each one to be a short read, designed to bring the reader out in a hot sweat and the need for a cold shower.
Joan’s writing is very different and I absolutely guarantee that you have never read anything like it. She is literary, astute and gifted. Her style is shocking, erotic, disturbing and impossible to put down. She runs right up to the boundaries of the usually acceptable, and then rides right over them.
Reading Versus Nature, within two pages, I was hooked. I was dismayed, disgusted and completely mesmerised by her central character, Tatar. And so are the women in the book, but somehow, like me, they couldn't seem to break away. You come back for more despite yourself.
Versus Nature is seriously un-put-downable, but it will make you question your own sanity as you read it. I thought that my own writing pushed the edges. Joan’s leaves me standing.
I do recommend that you try Versus Nature’ You can read the first few chapters for free. Follow this link to Joan’s sign-up page and you’ll be able to get a sample there.
